New Choral Commission
(January 22, 2019)

I’m both excited and humbled to announce a new choral piece I’ll be writing. I’ve been commissioned to compose a work for SATB, flute, harp and string quartet for Colorado Christian University, for a 20th anniversary memorial of the Columbine shootings. The text is a moving poem by Jennifer Peterson. The premier will be this April, and I’ll release more details as they become available.

Valor and Virtue
for Concert Band
(January 7, 2019)

This past Midwest Clinic I released a new piece for intermediate level band, an overture with with driving/energetic sections and a lyrical middle section. Valor and Virtue was written with middle school bands in mind, but will also offer opportunities for musical expression for older ensembles. Preview the score and hear a recording here!

  #GoAndDoLikewise T-Shirts!

(January 7, 2019)

I have a t-shirt! I had these made to help spread the word about my cantata The Good Samaritan, for SATB and chamber orchestra. The phrase that propelled me to write the work was "Go and do likewise," which is how the famous parable concludes. I wrote my musical setting in hopes that it will challenge and encourage others to live by the message of Jesus' teaching on what loving our neighbor looks like, starting with myself.  I hope these shirts will help promote my piece, but more than that, I hope that they can get some needed conversation going on what the parable is about!. Click here to order your #GoAndDoLikewise t-shirt!

(P.S. If you're in D/FW and ever need t-shirts made, I highly recommend Yep! Tees. :-D)

Wrapping Up Midwest

(December 21, 2018)

And just like that, it was all over. It was a little sad! I felt like I was just staring to get to know the other members of TPC Collective, then it was time to pack up and leave. But, it was so much fun!
I made many new friends, met several conductors who support new music (!), and heard great new music by composers young and...less young! It was inspiring, rejuvenating, exhausting, exhilarating.

Check out Katherine Bergman’s music here.

Check out Arthur Breur’s music here.

Check out Garrett Hope’s music here.
