(Chamber Orchestra, SATB; 1999, rev. 2005)

Chamber Orchestra (2111.2000.piano, SATB, Strings). I wrote this piece my senior of undergraduate study, and revised it in the summer of 2005. Pretty much all of the musical material for the entire piece is found in the instrumental introduction. The main melody is introduced by the strings at the beginning, and this theme can be heard throughout the piece in different instruments and voice parts. All of the melodic material is very simple, almost childlike; at least, that's what I was trying for. I wanted the piece to be very lush and rich, while also very innocent.
PSALM 61 (slightly altered)

Hear my cry, O God; and listen to my prayer.
From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

For You have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe.
I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.
For you have heard my vows, O God; you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.
I will ever sing praise to your name and fulfill my vows day after day.
